Joy School - Take 2

So, I wrangled a group of friends and convinced them to attempt
a year of joy school with me.
It's been fun. . .
and crazy. . .
and crazy. . .
and. . . CRAZY!
It's a group of four boys. . . and Ashie.
She has no patience with boys and their crazy antics.
I watch her while I'm trying to
contain the madness
-
with this look on her face. . . I can almost guarantee she's thinking something
like this . . .
"Are they for real, mom?"
"You've got to be kidding me here."
"I am not cut out for this."
"YOU did this to me, lady!"
Something like that.
She cracks me up.

Somehow the planets aligned while we were working out the teaching schedule and I got stuck with the dreaded APPLESAUCE LESSON again.
Remember this post?
Well, this time I decided to combine it with a field trip to a friend's house who has some apple trees. Why not teach about apples by seeing a tree - picking the apples - taking them home - and turning them into applesauce for snack? It was super fun.
Here they are apple pickin'! (Except for Griffin - who would have nothing to do with it.)

Then we came home and cooked those very apples picked by those tiny hands.
Then they used their very own muscles to smash them into applesauce. . . They LOVED it. The smashing that is. . .

Then we stirred in a little sugar and some cinnamon. . .
The end product was a flop. No one wanted any.
Except for this face. . .

Out of the class, Ashland was the ONLY ONE who ate her whole bowl.
One ate two bites,
one tasted the tiniest molecule
and the other two wouldn't even try it.

Will I do that again next time?
You bet I will!!

Who cares if they liked the end product.
They/we had a blast!

(Oh, and if you ended up reading Cadence's joy school post too - I have to say that this time is a complete 180. Ashie hasn't seemed to have any problem sharing her Mommy. It's heaven. Which is probably a good thing because I guarantee I wouldn't be able to handle all those boys and a needy daughter. I'd run! Really fast. . . and I'm pretty quick these days :)

How fun to have these pictures pop up in my google reader this afternoon! Now I'm curious about whether Peter tasted the applesauce or not . . .

Glad you had fun! And I promise it wasn't planned to have you stuck with that lesson again. ;)
