One local attraction is offering the public a big treat that comes in a very small package.
For the first time ever, Yellowstone Bear World, near Rexburg, is opening its doors during the off-season to allow you an up-close experience with it's newborn black bear cubs.
The cubs -- ten in total -- are only about two months old and each weigh between five and six pounds. The public is invited to see the bears at the park's gift shop free of charge, through this Saturday.
There's a sign-up sheet where kids can suggest names for the furry toddlers and for $15 dollars you can have your picture taken with one of the bears.
Bear World employees explain why there is such a narrow window for this once-in-a-lifetime experience. "They're gaining between one and two pounds a week, so by the time that we open the park in April, they'll be up around 30, 40 pounds. They grow very quickly and it's the only chance you're going to get to see one when they're this small."
This is the actual experience:
So, in order to even get close to seeing one adorable little critter, you have to pay $15. They then put the cub on one person's lap - snap a photo -

take it away - and then let you quickly pet it

before whisking it away. We were not impressed. The cub was cute, but not worth $15. Oh well.

The girls had fun - that is what's most important, right?

Wow! How fun for the girls.
Brooke...you are looking awesome! Getting good results from the gym. (not that you weren't looking good before)
Seems the news station better get its story straight before it reports. I guess everything they said was true but a bit misleading.Sorry you had to pay $15to "touch" a bear--Ashey doesn't look that excited about having her picture taken and the big girls seem to have more fun with the big stuffed bear. Live and learn. It was a good idea.
Mom
Whoops forgot something. That's a CUTE picture of you, sweetie.
Love ya,
Mom
Bear World came out here last year and went to the High School for the career fair or something of the sorts. The media then also made a big deal about this and people flocked in to be able to get their "once in a lifetime encounter with a black bear cub," but all were so disappointed when they paid the $15 for the 15 seconds it took to snap the picture and hand the cub to the next person. Live and learn I guess. It makes me never want to go to Bear World again.
i am glad i didn't make the trek on friday. i would have been so disappointed! bryce still thinks it would be worth it however, oh well
Great pics! Yes... some things are just worth the money. The look on the girls faces, right?
They are all so cute!
You held a bear cub. How crazy is that!
