What Did I Do This Weekend?

I ran in my first official 5K!!!!!!
My husband and sister-in-law.
I did.
I ran.
I finished.
(32:30 to be exact)
I conquered.
What did I conquer?
Probably the biggest misconception I have about my physical body. I never believed I could run. I remember in elementary school - coming up with some sort of excuse for "Coach" about why I couldn't participate in the running of the mile. It was my biggest fear. I knew I couldn't do it and I stopped trying at some point very early in my life.

Well, in the past months, I have been training - not really - but in retrospect, kind of - training for my first 5K. Just by getting on the treadmill every day. And every day, pushing a little harder - going a little faster - taking it a little farther. I got to where I could easily run a mile. Then two. Then three point one.

It felt great. I was out there with all these "runners" and I didn't feel out of place.
I felt strong.
I felt motivated.
I felt incredible.

My dad was there at the finish line - with my camera to capture it for posterity. Thanks, Daddy. My sweet babe loves giving high fives - here's my "good job, Mom" from her.

It was a beautiful day for a run. It couldn't have been more perfect.
My incredibly supportive sister-in-law
(I could go on and on about her)
and her three kiddos.

There's nothing better than having a free massage. Nothing.

So, I did it.
I ran an official 5K.
In front of people.
With no fear.
AND I FINISHED - in not too bad of time - if I do say so myself.

Check.

Wow! I don't think I have it in me to even attempt something like a 5K. I would be one that would be wheeled away to the ER afterwards. All I can say is good for you!!!!! You're amazing!!!

In case you don't know by now you are a "runner" and I am quite certain that you deserved to be there more than anyone else. I am so happy for you.
