The Haunted Mill

Halloween is such a weird holiday - don't you think? We go out of our way to try to scare people - what's that about? Well, Ben and I used to love going to the Haunted Mill - before kids really. You know, where you walk through a scary maze of darkness while masked demons are jumping out at you with chainsaws and bloody stumps trying to force screams to emerge from the deepest most corner of your soul. We've been trying to get someone to come with us since we left Rexburg. Well, Zane and Jaime - bless their hearts - agreed to come along. This was not for the faint of heart. So, I thought I'd share a few pics and words of wisdom that escaped us during our adventure.

Brooke: "Sorry Zane, I'm totally holding on to you."

Zane: "It's okay, I'm practi-cally rid-ing on Jaime's back."

Jaime: "AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!" As she crumbles to the ground.

Ben: "Hold on," he says in front of a tunnel you have to crawl through - he takes a deep breath and then drops to the floor and crawls like a madman - I think we saw sparks as he moved. "Oh Crap," after some sort of creature came up behind him with a leaf blower, a scream escaped him that sounded like a girl, his arm waved frantically near his head while his knees practically touched his ears as he ran.

It was seriously the most frightening 30 minutes of our lives, and we live to share the tale.
Thanks Zane and Jaime. We had a blast!!!

lynsey said...: hmmmm...this is reminding me of a time when we went with our good friends (names rhyme with "schnooke" and "sven") to a spooky old broken down home in rexburg late one night.

i'm totally freaked out already when "sven" decides to whip out some firecracker pops & throw them all over causing ME to scream like a little girl and take off running...leaving sparks probably.

After attending a graveside ceremony for Uncle Dean, Cadence says, "Mom, did you know that a motorcycle could die?" "It can," I replied. "Yeah - it really can," she said. Well, as she and her cousin were exploring the cemetery, they came across a headstone with a motorcycle on it. I realized what she was talking about and explained to her that some people pick a picture of something they really liked to put on their headstone. She looked at me with the most serious face and said, "Oh, Hayden and I thought that motorcycle had really died!"

I jogged over to get Cadence from Joy School and she wanted to jog back - after running a good distance she said, "Mom, this is UNBEARABLE." (Where does she hear these things?) Then she says, "But Friday, it will be bearable." Crazy kid.

I went in to kiss Cadence goodnight and she said, "Heavenly Father is the BEST GUY! He really is."

While I was talking on the phone, Cadence came over and said, "You need to take care of us." Hmmm, is that a hint?

After rolling our balance ball over her sister, I told Cadence that she needed to put it downstairs. "Yeah," she said, "cause it needs a time out. It just pushed my sister down." Understand that it wasn't Cadence, it was THE BALL!!!!

After NOT LISTENING to her mother's tenth warning to stop touching the sprayer in the sink, Cadence SPRAYED THE KITCHEN DOWN. She sat in the NAUGHTY SPOT for three minutes and then came to appologize, "Sorry Mommy, I'm really sorry for spraying the kitchen. . . I was just trying to clean it." Nice.

While sitting on Grandma's lap in church, she says, "We have blood in our bodies and BOOGERS in our NOSES." Anatomy 101. That's my girl.

While Cadence and her Grandma were walking hand in hand, her Grandma started singing - Cadence said, "Grandma, nobody wants to hear that." Do you think she's ever heard that before? Well, my disclaimer is that I have never said that to her about her singing - only her crying!!

Before her daddy kissed her goodbye this morning, she said, "You have whiskers, just kiss me on the hair."

After being told to hold still by her daddy, Cadence said, "I can't stop moving. I'm too wigglish." (Is that like ticklish?)

We heard this outburst as we were driving - during the first snowstorm of the year.
"GASP!! We forgot to put up our CHRISTMAS TREE!"

"It's fall, so the leaves are falling off the trees. And someday when the wind stops blowing, we can put them in a big pile." (Little does she know - we live in Idaho - where the wind NEVER STOPS BLOWING!!!)

While her daddy was telling her stories in bed, she sniffed him (he'd just mowed the lawn) and said,"Daddy, you stink! Garbage stinks. . . We have stuff to spray on garbage to make it not stink. We don't have any. We need to go to the store and get some." The next morning, she wakes up and asks me, "Did daddy take a shower? Cause he stinks!"
